The camera's viewfinder makes for an intimate space, much like a personal movie screen. The visual world rushes across in a play of light, shape, form, and shadow. There is a sudden visual understanding; components organize into a comfortable visible whole. With the press of a button, the camera shutter opens, closes, and thwarts time passing. This, coupled with my curiosity, creates a feeling that these moments are true, with my photographs being the outcome.
This recognition leads to a serious playfulness in my approach to photography. Humbled that I am only witnessing and not creating anything before the lens is comfortable and uncomfortable simultaneously. The world unfolds before the lens, and the camera removes and holds still a moment from this unerring continuous flow. I am grateful to be a part of these fascinating circumstances and to present these photographs to share my felt experience.
